2026 North Carolina Commissioner of the Year - Brooketah Banks

Carolina Council is proud to announce that Brooketah Banks, Chairman of the Kinston Housing Authority Board of Commissioners has been named the 2026 North Carolina Commissioner of the Year.

This prestigious award recognizes commissioners who demonstrate exceptional leadership, advocacy, and commitment to advancing housing and community development across North and South Carolina.  Ms. Banks was formally honored during the CCHRCO Commissioners Conference luncheon on April 18, 2026.

As Chairman of the Kinston Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, Ms. Banks has demonstrated exceptional leadership by prioritizing the needs of residents.  She refers other agencies and partners to the Kinston Housing Authority in order to provide necessary services to enrich the lives of the agency's residents.  Additionally, Ms. Banks is a steadfast advocate for the agency.  Ms. Banks assisted KHA staff and CCHRCO members in selling CCHRCO scholarship tickets at the annual conference which helped to generate the most funds raised.  She also contributed items for the SERC and CCHRCO baskets to raise funds for scholarships.

The Commissioner of the Year Award highlights individuals who go above and beyond in their roles, demonstrating innovation, strong governance, and meaningful community engagement.  Ms. Banks selection reflects her exemplary service
